Learning What Matters: A Novel Approach to Study and Adapt to the Real-time Impacts of COVID-19 on Engineering Education

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a sudden and significant impact on almost all aspects of daily life. In higher education, instructors and students have had limited time to adapt to online learning, while observing stay-at-home orders and coping with high levels of psychological and, in many cases, financial stress. The University of Georgia is using a novel research method, called SenseMaker®, to capture how faculty, staff, and students in their College of Engineering are experiencing this crisis.

This webinar, facilitated by Nicola Sochacka, John Morelock, Racheida Lewis, and Joachim Walther, describes how the study is providing real-time and actionable insights on how to navigate the transition to online learning and then back to face-to-face classes, and how to harness the lessons learned during this pandemic to catalyze a seismic shift toward focusing on “what really matters” for educating the engineers of the future.
