While the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all postsecondary students, it has had a disproportionately traumatic impact on students from underserved minorities, increasing barriers for entry, persistence, and retention and negatively affecting mental health and well-being.
This webinar, facilitated by Dr. Racheida Lewis (University of Georgia), provides updated insights into COVID’s impact on minoritized engineering students, highlighting unique student experiences, and addressing the impact of COVID-19 on their mental health and well-being.

Dr. Racheida Lewis is an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering with an emphasis on engineering education research. Dr. Lewis’ conducts research that explores the recruitment and retention of engineering students, particularly as it pertains to the first year. She also has a passion for researching ways to make engineering more inclusive and accessible to underrepresented students. Dr. Lewis received her doctorate degree in Engineering Education from Virginia Tech where she was a Gates Millennium Scholar and an Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society Inductee. She received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia respectively.
