Building on recent publications calling for the engineering education research community to examine positionality and impact of their research, we will bring this approach to the STEM community to reflect together about individual and collective impact. As education, engineering, and research are deeply human endeavors, examining the embodied and identity-laden aspects of these spheres is crucial to a nuanced and strategic understanding of our work. Further, although recent trends have provided tools for examining quality in education research, we find a need for more understanding of our individual positionalities to progress towards a research community that truly broadens participation and creates broader impacts in society.
Speakers for this webinar are Joel Alejandro (Alex) Mejia (The University of Texas at San Antonio) and Stephen Secules (Florida International University).
This webinar is part of a larger series on building community and reflecting to re-envision in engineering education. This material is based on work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. EEC-1733004.
